Chamomile. This herb is a natural relaxation herb that calms the nervous system. The chemical compound found in the flower, apigenin may also calm the mind.
Valerian Root. The roots of this plant are used for tea and helps to ease anxious feelings and improve sleep quality. It does have a pungent aroma with the flowers, but the root is best combined with other herbs.
Lavender. Similar to Chamomile the essential oils present in lavender can promote relaxation. The taste is quite floral and not for everyone and is best combined with other herbs.
Passionflower. This herb is historically used to treat anxiety and insomnia and acts as a mild sedative. It works by increasing gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain which promotes relaxation. The taste is mild and earthy.
Lemon Balm. This herb is part of the mint family and is used for sleep and as a digestive aid. It helps soothe symptoms of stress and therefore helps us relax. When combined with Valerian it may help relieve restlessness. The taste is similar to mint with citrus undertones.
