Cleavers is a weed that is usually unwanted and thrown away as it sticks to your gloves, pants, shirt, socks. Well, you get the idea.
Cleavers helps our lymphatic system to remove waste products from the bloodstream and maintain our immune system. It supports the lymph system's natural detoxification of the body to keep you "in the flow". This little clinging herb is powerful and is also useful as a diuretic, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory. Cleavers is used in skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema as well.
This herb is found around the world in Europe, North America, Asia, Greenland and Australia. Amazing!
If you find your own cleavers, spread to dry on a cotton towel. In the following recipe you will need about 1-ounce dried cleavers and 4 cups of boiling water.
Put the cleavers in a 32-ounce mason jar, then fill the jar to the top with boiling water. Cover with a tight lid and steep for a minimum of 4-5 hours or overnight. Pour the infusion through a coffee filter into a clean 32-ounce mason jar. Gather the corners of the coffee filter and squeeze the liquid from the herbs.
Enjoy the infusion straight from the jar or pour into a mug to drink. Store your infusion covered, in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. You can also sweeten the infusion as desired or turn it into a smoothie with apple and lemon. Yummy!!
